Making a Difference: The Diverse Scholars Initiative

In partnership with nonprofit and civic organizations, the United Health Foundation’s Diverse Scholars Initiative is working to build a health workforce that’s as diverse as the people we serve, specifically helping to increase the number of primary care providers ready to deliver personalized, culturally competent care, particularly in underserved communities.

Since 2007, the United Health Foundation has provided funding for scholarships for nearly 3,000 students of color pursuing careers as primary care health professionals. Currently, the program supports 234 undergraduate and graduate students across 36 states.
