Advancing diversity, equity and inclusion

Advancing an inclusive culture where diversity fuels performance, and where we leverage our collective power to create greater impact.

  • Educating our leadership and workforce on how to create and contribute to a more inclusive environment.
  • Our team must reflect the diverse communities we serve. Our commitment to DEI is inspired by and grounded in our company values.
  • Our relaunched Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) play a more vital role in talent strategy and provide insights into diverse communities.

We continue to provide education for our leaders and our workforce to build inclusive leadership behaviors, develop personal awareness, examine bias, promote allyship, and grow resilience and resourcefulness across the organization.

  • 7.8K+ employees participated in live learning sessions on core values, leadership, well-being, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Employee Resource Groups
UnitedHealth Group’s enterprise-wide Employee Resource Groups foster a more inclusive, diverse workplace. These connected communities focus on the diverse experiences, backgrounds and attributes that make each of us one of a kind. Members of these groups connect with other team members from across the enterprise to foster a greater sense of belonging and inclusion while enabling themselves and others to be heard, supported and valued by their peers and leaders.

Employee health and well‑being

Enabling employees to be their best in an office, a clinic or at home by offering robust resources and programs designed to improve holistic well-being.

  • Eliminating out-of-pocket costs for several preferred prescription drugs for U.S. employees enrolled in many of our medical plans.
  • Connecting employees with financial coaches to tackle financial challenges and discuss investment and retirement planning.
  • Supporting healthy families with expanded mental health support, expanded parental leave, paid caregiver leave, and a new maternity and infant care program that provides personalized care and support for pregnancy, postpartum and return-to-work.
  • 78% received care during their pregnancy.

Developing our talent

Developing and growing our talent by incorporating employee listening, leader development, and career growth and mobility.

We use behavioral and emotional data to better address employee needs and actions. Inclusion and psychological safety scores heavily influence our Employee Experience (EXI) survey results, and we work with leadership to assess areas for improvement and opportunity.

  • Employee listening: 253k employees responded to each Employee Experience survey.
  • 75% positive EXI score, up from 72% in 2021.
